Abstract At present the techniques available for performing intracorporeal lithotripsy include electrohydraulic, ultrasonic, laser, and ballistic lithotripsy. We present our experience with a unique technology for performing intracorporeal lithotripsy, namely the Swiss lithoclast, which is a form of ballistic lithotripsy. This simple and inexpensive device uses compressed air to activate a solid probe in a manner similar to that of a jackhammer. We report the use of this lithoclast in 92 patients involving a total of 95 ureteral calculi. The lithoclast successfully fragmented 81 of the 95 calculi, a success rate of 85.26%. There were no major complications directly related to the use of this device. The Swiss lithoclast seems to be a safe, effective and an inexpensive means of performing intracorporeal lithotripsy for ureteral calculi.

Ureteroscopic Lithotripsy Using Swiss Lithoclast for Treatment of Ureteral Calculi: 12-Years Experience

Ureteroscopic lithotripsy using Swiss Lithoclast was performed in 411 cases from January 1996 to September 2007 in a single hospital. Medical records of 341 cases, in which Swiss Lithoclast was successfully applied, were available for this retrospective study. We used 9.5Fr and 10Fr Storz rigid ureteroscopes. A success was defined as being free of stone-related symptoms and residual stones larg...

We report our early experience with a new device for endoscopic stone disintegration: the Swiss lithoclast. This device was used to treat 200 patients with stones in kidney, ureter, and bladder. Its effectiveness was 100% when the stone could be approached irrespective of size or composition, and no complication was encountered. Prof. A. Percutaneous nephrolithotomy for proximal ureteral calculi with severe hydronephrosis: assessment of different lithotriptors.

PURPOSE We compared the efficacy and safety of percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) with different intracorporeal lithotriptors for proximal ureteral stones in patients with severe hydronephrosis. PATIENTS AND METHODS We retrospectively analyzed the records of 192 patients with proximal ureteral calculi and severe hydronephrosis who underwent PCNL between February 2003 and December 2007. Treatment of large proximal ureteral stones: extra corporeal shock wave lithotripsy versus semi-rigid ureteroscope with lithoclast

PURPOSE Assessment of safety and efficacy of extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy versus semi-rigid ureteroscope with lithoclast for treatment of large proximal ureteral stones. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study included 147 patients with large upper ureteral stones. SWL and ureteroscopy were performed in 71 and 76 patients respectively. Patients in the SWL group were treated with Siemens: - Mo...
